Dar Maalma - Fatime SEHIMI

Ecologically Whole

I first encountered the creations of Fatima Sahimi before meeting the woman herself. Her “little bird’s nest” won unanimous admiration at SEFARM Paris 2024, and ever since, I have been captivated by the elegance of her work in halfa, that sun-dried grass of the steppes, transformed into natural and ecological treasures.

Fatima is a delicate soul, born in the Oriental region, in the province of Jerada. From an early age, she was drawn into the world of craftsmanship, which became not just a profession but a vocation. Married at sixteen, now divorced, she is the mother of two boys and a girl. Yet she refused to let hardship define her. Instead, she chose to build her future upon creation and transmission.

At the head of a rural cooperative, she weaves together couture, embroidery, and the making of doum and halfa products. For her, crafting is more than production, it is a mission. Through her work, she empowers women, fostering social integration, skill development, and economic independence.

Her hands shape objects that carry the memory of tradition while opening pathways to a fairer tomorrow. In every basket, in every weave, one can read her determination to preserve ancestral know-how while offering new horizons to rural women.

Fatima Sahimi is not only an artisan. She is a builder of dignity and light, a woman who turns the grass of the steppes into hope.
